Beane, Yu-Bin Dai:Sometime, Somewhere
.Sometimes, I wonder—when did we begin to lose our sense of time? Was it in those mornings awakened by notifications, or the nights quietly soaked in the glow of screens?
For me, Sometime, somewhere does not point to a specific time or place. It feels more like a state of being—something that is fading, yet continuously emerging.Moments that once happened and those that might have happened fold and overlap within the space of the works, turning into forms we can somehow perceive.
“Sometime” suggests an uncertain sense of time—a hazy zone between memory and forgetting.“Somewhere” speaks of a fluid space—one that could be a real location, or simply an emotional projection.
To me, Sometime, somewhere is a practice of perception. As we move, pause, and gaze within the exhibition, we are, in a way, learning how to feel time again—not the measurable kind of hours and minutes, but the kind touched softly by scent, by light, by sound. That uncertain, yet deeply embodied kind of time.
Perhaps we can never truly return to “that place” or “that moment.”Yet here, in this very now, we can still sense it—something unfolding, some memory stirring awake. That is what I mean by Sometime, somewhere.
Beane, Yu-Bin Dai
From Pingtung, Taiwan, now living and creating in Taichung.
My creative inspiration comes from the “spaces” of everyday life. These may be my room, kitchen, or bathroom, or they may be a friend’s room or any other place. Wherever I go, that space can become the starting point of my work. My focus on “space” may stem from my personality. As someone who is used to—and enjoys—being alone, space carries the accumulations of daily life as well as the full range of my emotions. Compared to the feelings and emotional interactions that come from being with people, being alone with a space gives me a greater sense of safety and ease.
Through the lived experiences of staying in these spaces, I treat “space” as a projection of my own state of being. I try to transform what was once a “private space” into a “public space.” Through the presentation of my works, I hope that viewers, while looking at the images, can also bring in their own past moments and memories of being alone in their own spaces.
